Skin types & characteristics

We read so much about skin types, ingredients we apply and how effective they can be for some while on the other hand some don't see the difference they would like in their skin. But why does this happen?

Choosing the right ingredients for our skin type is important not only to see results from using the products but also to protect our skin from possible damage that can be caused if the ingredients are not suitable for us.
We read and hear so many ingredients that we often get confused. But let's get this straight. Not everything is for everyone.

It is imperative that we understand our skin type (and exact concerns) so that we choose and use only those ingredients that are necessary, effective and safe for us.

How to find your skin type?

1st WAY

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and then gently pat dry. Do not apply any product and wait 30 minutes. Then he noticed it.
1. If you see you shine, then you have oily skin.
2. If you see that you shine in the T zone, then you have Mixed Skins.
3. If the you feel tight and dry, then you have dry skin.
4. If you feel comfortable and it feels hydrated you have normal skin type.

2nd WAY

Wash your face with a mild cleanser and pat dry gently. Wait 30 minutes and then use blotting papers (oil control papers) and check the oiliness in various places, such as forehead, cheeks.
1. If you see grease on all the papers, then you have oily skin.
2. If byou say oil on the T-zone paper, then you have Mixed Skins.
3. If you see minimal signs of oiliness then you have normal skin.
4. If you don't see any greasiness, then you have dry skin.

Characteristics of each skin type

Oily skin type

The main characteristics of oily skin include: Excess oil from the sebaceous glands resulting in shine and frequent breakouts.

  • Wrinkles are less visible (good thing 😉 )
  • Visible and dilated pores
  • It has black and white spots
  • Makeup spoils easily

Oily skin is usually hereditary. However, it can also be due to increased hormone levels, for example during puberty, during women's menstrual cycle, during pregnancy or menopause.

The key to oily skin is to keep oil levels under control without dehydrating our skin. If the skin is dehydrated, the natural mechanism will be activated and the sebaceous glands will produce more oil resulting in a vicious cycle.

Combination skin type

When we talk about combination skin, it means that we have at least two different skin types. The main characteristics of combination skin include:

  • Oily or normal T-zone (forehead, chin, nose)
  • Normal or dry skin on the cheeks.
  • Visible pores and blackheads may be present in the T-zone
  • There may be breakouts.

Mixed skin has the peculiarity of being made up of 2 different types of skin. This means we have to treat the T-zone differently and the cheeks differently.

Many times it is not possible to have different products and luckily for us there are skincare products that can cover our needs completely. Of course, if we have the mood and time, we prefer to apply different products according to the needs of each area of the skin and of each period we are going through.

Normal skin type

normal skin type

Normal skin is usually quite balanced. You don't feel it either dry or greasy. Due to the balanced skin barrier, it does not break out, does not peel and is not sensitive.

The main characteristics of normal skin include:

  • It is neither greasy nor dry
  • It is not sensitive to environmental changes or new products.
  • It has no breakouts.

Normal skin can tolerate most ingredients, which means you can experiment with different skincare products. What is important is to maintain the balance of the skin and protect it from harmful external factors.

Dry skin type

Dry skin is often tight and can sometimes have visible cracks. Usually, if the skin is dry, it is dry all over the face, not just in certain areas. Dry skin can also be very sensitive and itchy.

The main characteristics of dry skin include:

  • Sensitivity and itching
  • Tight skin with a pulling sensation
  • Invisible resources
  • Visible wrinkles

Dry skin can be caused by environmental factors, genetic factors or the wrong choice of skincare products.
Proper hydration, gentle and good cleansing are the keys to dry skin.
