6 Common Mistakes We Make When Washing Our Face

Whether you choose the wrong water temperature or the wrong product, dermatologists analyze the most common mistakes made when cleansing the face. Do you do them too???

Washing your face seems simple enough, right? However, the techniques and products you choose make a big difference in how well you clean your face of impurities and make-up. We asked dermatologists to tell us the most common mistakes we make and present them to you.

1st common mistake. The water is very hot.

Splashing hot water on your face may feel good, but did you know that temperature plays a role in proper cleansing? Certified dermatologists explain to us that hot water can dry out the skin as it strips it of its natural oils. It also increases redness on sensitive skin and causes breakouts. Warm water is recommended for cleansing the face. If you still want the relief offered by hot water, try a herbal steam.

2nd common mistake. You're overdoing the scrubbing.

Cleaning dead cells and removing them may help to brighten the face, but excessive friction can cause damage to the outer layer of the skin.

Dermatologists explain to us that excessive friction leads to skin redness and a dull complexion. A very gentle exfoliation can be done periodically but you must use a very gentle product. You can also use a chemical exfoliant such as Yes i am Toner AHA 5% by Jumiso.

Chemical peeling with ingredients such as glycolic and mandelic acid is very mild and can be used daily. In contrast to scrubs that remove dead cells by friction, hydroxy acids in essence dissolve the compounds between the cells and they in turn detach themselves.

3rd common mistake. You don't remove everything.

This mistake is common if you wear makeup. If you don't remove makeup properly, this will lead to pore clogging. Double cleansing will help you remove everything.

We recommend a cleansing balm and then a cleansing gel or foam, a two-step method that leaves the skin balanced and perfectly clean. Another solution is to use the cleanser of your choice and finish with a gentle wipe with a cotton pad soaked in micellar water.

4th common mistake. You wash too often.

Washing the face too often can damage the skin's protective layer. This in turn affects how sensitive your skin will become to the environment, how well it will retain moisture and how long the signs of aging will be delayed.

As a general rule, the face should be cleansed up to twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. If you work out or do chores all day and you need to wash your face then it's better to use micellar water or a very mild soap. Try it Healing Tea Garden Green Tea Cleansing Water.

5th common mistake. You are using the wrong type of cleaner.

There are two reasons why the soap you are using is not ideal for your face. The first is that the product is not made for your skin. For example a body or hand cleanser that is not suitable can strip the skin of its natural oils and cause dryness or even itchiness.

The second reason is that you are not using the right product for your skin type. For example, facial cleansers for teenagers are more aggressive than those indicated for more mature skin. Conversely, cleansers for older ages won't be effective on teenagers with severe acne and oilier skin.

6th common mistake. Your toner is too astringent.

While a strong astringent toner can be very effective if used correctly, using it on a daily basis - or using too much - can have a negative effect on your skin. The astringent toner should be used when the skin is particularly oily, alternating it with a more moisturizing toner, or using it only in the morning and giving a base to the hydration in the evening.

When using an astringent toner, a small amount is key. A few drops on cotton and a gentle pass over the face is enough. Then apply your moisturizer.
