What is serum after all?

First of all, let's make it clear that you are not the only one on earth who has no idea what a serum is. Even if you have bought a serum, it is certainly not clear to you what exactly this product is.

Think how many different things a serum can be:
Is moisturizer, but at the same time you must also use a moisturizer. It has the texture of oil, but it doesn't have to facial oil. It may be watery, but it is essence; As many questions as you can imagine, we haven't even mentioned its ingredients.

Skin care should not be stressful, the purpose of this ritual is relaxation and not to cause us additional stress. So to help you out we gathered our knowledge from various sources, did a little more research and came up with the following guide. Of course, do your own research and testing, and if you feel like sharing them with us, we'd love to read your comments!

So what is this infamous serum?

Serum is a skin care product that you can apply to your skin after cleansing, but before moisturizing in order to deliver powerful ingredients directly to the skin. The serum is particularly suitable for this purpose because it consists of smaller molecules that can penetrate deep into the skin and provide a very high concentration of active ingredients. This makes it serum a great tool for targeting specific skin care concerns such as wrinkles, blemishes, blemishes, acne scars etc.

Is the serum moisturizing?

Yes and no. Serums can be full of moisturizing ingredients (hyaluronic acid, ceramides) to help the skin retain moisture. But, that doesn't make them moisturizing in the traditional sense. Face lotions and moisturizers are richer and create a barrier on top of the skin to hold all those good elements in the skin.

How often should I use my serum?

The frequency depends on each serum. Read the label, but once a day will probably cover your skin's needs.

What is the difference between serum and face oil?

Traditional serums are based on water, water-based as our English friends call it. Face oils are a trend that is gaining more and more ground in skincare and some of them are also presented as serums.
So we have water-based serums and oil-based serums. We apply the water-based serums before the cream because they serve a very important purpose. They nourish the inner layer of the skin as the ingredients penetrate deep due to their very small size. Oil-based serums are applied after moisturizer because they have a larger molecule. The purpose of the oils is to keep the hydration from the cream and whatever you've applied underneath the oil throughout the day.

Is essence a serum?

Essentially yes. Based on where they sit in your beauty routine (after cleansing, before moisturizing) and what function they serve (targeted skin care needs other than simple hydration) serums and essences are similar. They differ in texture, however. Serums are more concentrated, while essences are available in a more liquid texture.

The serums are a bit $$$$ …

Yes, serums tend to be the most expensive in skincare. But for one reason only! Remember that part we mentioned that they have a very concentrated and strong composition? They are definitely worth their money.

Are serums too short-lived?

Some potent ingredients often found in serums can become unstable once in contact with air. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C), for example, can oxidize and lose its effectiveness over time. But thanks to science, modified versions of the ingredient (that are water-soluble, etc.) last longer, making your skin even better. The best rule of thumb is to store your vial in a cool, dry place (obviously) and use it within six months to a year.

Wondering if the serum is right for your skin?

Probably. You should definitely look at its ingredients first.

If you are…
Acne-prone: Look for vitamin C (increases collagen production, improves the skin's repair process and reduces inflammation), retinol (has antioxidant properties and reduces inflammation), zinc (soothes irritation, regulates oiliness), and salicylic acid ( clears pores). Look at it, for example All day Vitamin Brightening & Balancing Facial Serum – Shine & balancing

You have dry skin: Look for vitamin E (antioxidant, protects cells from oxidative damage), niacinamide (improves skin elasticity, increases ceramide levels in the skin), glycolic acid (gently exfoliates and gives a more even tone) and hyaluronic acid ( retains moisture). Look at it, for example BFFECT Niacinamide 10% + Matrixyl 2% Serum

You have dull skin: Look for antioxidants like green tea extract, resveratrol, furulic acid (they fight free radicals, increase the effectiveness of sunscreen during the day, and promote cellular repair and repair at night). Look at it, for example AHA BHA PHA 30 Days Miracle Serum 50ml

See all serums.

Warning: Because serums are extremely potent, more is not always better. Be careful, strong ingredients can irritate sensitive skin. And always remember to test any new product on your wrist before applying it to your face.
