double-cleanse

What is double face cleansing?

Dual facial cleansing is at the heart of the Korean 10-step routine.

Undoubtedly it is the most basic step in the cleansing routine, while very often people have the wrong view as they avoid the use of oils for the face. The double cleansing is nevertheless very important for the removal of impurities from the face while at the same time preparing it for the correct application of the other products.

The double cleaning starts with a cleaning oil and is followed by the cleaning foam. Two different formulas are required for a proper and deep cleansing of the face.

 Frequent questions

  1. Can I use plant-based oils, such as coconut oil or olive oil, as a cleanser?

Unfortunately, many plant-based oils can clog the pores of the skin. Although you can use these oils to hydrate your skin, they are not designed to cleanse the skin. They do not milk, nor do they clean like cleansing oils, leaving residues from make up and impurities on the surface of the skin. For proper cleansing use a special cleansing oil and if you want the benefits of hydration choose a cleanser that is impregnated with oil based on plants such as Wonder Apricot Seed Deep Cleansing Oil by Tony Moly.

  1. Should I use cleansing oil even if I do not wear make up?

Definitely! Even if you do not wear make up, you need a cleansing oil to remove sebum and air pollutants. Water-based cleaners can not effectively remove impurities, so cleansing oil is essential to start your routine.

  1. How often should I do double cleaning?

Double cleaning should be done twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. The morning cleansing removes the oiliness and sweat that the skin produced during sleep, as well as the impurities left over from the previous night. The evening cleansing removes the make up, spf, and other impurities that the skin has accumulated during the day.

  1. The cleansing oil will not cause me breakouts ??

In no case! When used properly, a cleansing oil does not add oil to your face. In fact, it removes excess oil from the face, keeping the skin clean while helping to balance the skin's moisture. This means that your skin is less likely to have a breakout.

  1. What is double cleaning?

Double cleaning is a two-step process very common in Korea. It starts with one cleaning oil which removes make up, spf, and other impurities that have accumulated on the skin during the day. Here is a water based cleaner, like one cleaning foam, which dissolves impurities such as sweat and dust. Try the double cleansing for a week and you will be surprised by the result!

  1. Isn't it very time consuming?

Not at all! Once you get used to it, it becomes your second nature. When you experience the magic of double cleansing you will not cleanse your skin again in any other way.

  1. Are all cleansing oils equally good?

No. There are many and they are made for specific skin types and skin needs. See them here and make sure you find the one that suits you. We are here to help you!

  1. Is solid or liquid balm better?

This is a purely personal choice. Solid balms have the advantage of being transported on trips. We especially love two cleansing balms, the Radiance cleansing balm of Beauty of Joseon and the All Clean balm of Heimish that you will find in two sizes. See all cleansing gels and balms here.

  1. I have oily skin, why should I use cleansing oil?

Cleansing oils gently remove sebum and help balance the skin by preventing the production of extra sebum. You will notice that using oil or cleansing balm will start to reduce the shine of your face.

  1. Why do I do double cleaning in the morning?

Morning cleansing is essential as it removes oil and sweat that the skin has produced during sleep, as well as impurities left over from the previous night. It also prepares the skin for the morning cleansing routine.

  1. Water based cleansers dry my skin. Can I use only oil or balm?

Better not. Using a water-based cleanser completely removes from your skin not only impurities that are fat-soluble but also impurities that are water-soluble. Instead of avoiding the use of a water based cleanser, try a mild cleanser with a low pH that will not irritate your skin.

  1. Is double cleaning excessive?

No. Cleansing oils do not remove lipids and tiles from your skin which are necessary to keep the skin healthy and balanced. If you use a water-based cleanser that suits your skin type, it will not remove even the moisture your skin needs.

  1. How does cleansing oil help in breakouts?

Cleansing oil gently removes oil and dirt from the face which can clog pores and lead to breakouts. If you have acne problems, double cleansing will make a huge difference in your face.
